Baracoa Attractions
Far to the east of Cuba is Baracoa, a scenic little town nestling in the tropical vegetation of this luscious section of the Caribbean island. The town is located in Bahía de Miel (Bay of Honey), and lies beneath the mysterious El Yunque (The Anvil) mountain which is characterized by its flat top. A combination of its illustrious history and exotic scenery make this an irresistible travel destination to include as a part of any Cuba vacation.
Besides historical significance, the isolated natural beauty of Baracoa is its primary allure; the first road to the city was built in the 1960’s and this remains the best way to arrive. Rich foliage has flourished around the town, fuelled by tropical rains and rushing rivers. This is defined by hills lined with trees of cacao and coconuts and beaches dotted with royal palms. This terrain makes for some amazing adventure holidays with trekking, rafting and water sports, all popular activities for those who travel to Cuba and its eastern edge. The town is also markedly buzzing despite its size; cultural activities are regular, particularly in April when a number of street parties are held to celebrate the start of the Cuban War of Independence.
